Welcome to Yappari.Info! On the interwebs, I’m mostly known as Mega. I’m an AuDHD otaku who loves obscure Japanese media, retro games and tech, and anime. This is a site where I yap and ramble about my love of niche and overlooked retro Japanese games, anime & manga, characters, gaming history, fandom culture, ROM hacking, and localizations. In other words, it’s about my passion for gaming, anime, manga, and various internet fanworks and projects, and my desire to share that passion with you! Yes, you! Because I like ya a lot! …Now don’t get too attached there…

When I ramble about games or anime, I don’t like to present my posts as just reviews or ratings, as I used to. Gaming review blogs are a dime a dozen, so I like to instead do overviews of games and anime, and go into depth about a lot of the different aspects of a game, like its development history, how it changed overseas, gameplay mechanics and recommended strategies, the fandom, and supplemental media. Basically, I want to present my pages as almost like retro gaming magazines of old, like Nintendo Power and Game Informer.

Though while I mention those magazines, my biggest inspirations are blogs such as HardcoreGaming101, MoeGamer, Kantopia, and Legends of Localization. As well as YouTubers such as Chuggaaconroy and Cybershell

I usually like to write about whatever pops into my head from time to time, regardless of how obscure, inaccessible, unpopular, or “problematic” it is. I’m a very open-minded person and believe in giving things a fair shot. This can mean games or manga that were never released in English, ROM hacks only hosted on now-defunct websites, or even games I have developed myself

I have a very strong “seeing the best in everything” approach to most things, even outside of the scope of this site, so I tend to be more positive in these posts, even with things I personally dislike or disagree with. I feel I’d just come off as disingenuous if I try to go full late-2010 Animated Atrocities mode and ham up all of my criticisms. That said, as a creative myself and someone who spends a lot of time researching the topics I talk about, as well as personally being exhausted of all the cynicism and negativity in the world, I have no real interest in ranting or complaining about games beyond flatly pointing out their respective flaws.

Back to the site, I first created this site after graduating from university. I had a collection of Google Docs of different topics I found interesting to talk about (most Fire Emblem stuff), but no one to really share it with. That’s when a friend recommended I make my stuff into a blog site. I made the first blog site called Mega Retroventure, but very quickly, I disliked the name. I then decided to change it to Mega Convoy, since I love Fire Emblem, and the convoy works as a storage for your in-game items, like my blog being a storage for my online posts.

That said, I was fed up with Blogger and moved on to WordPress. There, I decided to change the name once again to Yappari, which is honestly the first name I’ve actually enjoyed.

The term “Yappari” (やっぱり) is a common Japanese adverb meaning “as expected,” “after all,” or “I knew it.” It is often used to confirm a prior belief or when something turns out exactly as suspected. I felt the name is suitable because it rolls off the tongue very well, the tag-line “I knew it,” fits for someone like me who is a living embodiment of the nerd emoji, it has the word “yap” in it, and since I cover a lot of Japanese media, a Japanese term like that works, plus it’s common enough for people to recognize if you watch a lot of subbed anime, but it’s not as generic as some shit like Sugoi, Nani, or Desu.

Anyways, this site is a passion project that allows me to share my love with all the good people of the interwebs. If you like my stuff, please consider supporting me through Ko-Fi, since running a WordPress site isn’t free. I also do art commissions. If you’d like to see my art, you can view my gallery here! If you want me to draw something for you, you can contact me either on BlueSky or Ko-Fi.

If you don’t like my stuff, feel free to let me know how much you hate it while insulting me and calling me names using the same contacts I listed prior. I will cry.
